India ranks among the world’s top honey producers, and beekeeping is not only essential for pollination and ecological balance but also a growing source of income and entrepreneurship for rural communities. With rising interest in pollinator conservation, organic farming, and value-added bee products, there is increasing demand for skilled apiculture professionals.
This 16-week practical course at Kaveri University equips participants with hands-on expertise in modern apiculture, from managing apiaries to processing bee products and exploring market linkages. The course also aligns with government support programs such as NABARD schemes and the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM), enhancing the scope for sustainable livelihoods.

Graduates from any discipline with interest in apiculture or rural entrepreneurship
NGO-sponsored participants, farmers, and aspiring rural micro-entrepreneurs

Introduction to Apiculture: Significance and applications
Bee biology: Castes, lifecycle, communication, and foraging
Beekeeping equipment: Types of hives, tools, and protective gear
Apiary site selection, layout, and seasonal colony management
Pest and disease management: Wax moth, Varroa mite, foulbrood diseases
Honey extraction techniques, filtration, storage, and packaging
Production of value-added bee products: beeswax, propolis, royal jelly
Preparation of business plans, cost-benefit analysis, and branding
Exposure to quality standards, FSSAI licensing, and export compliance
Field Exposure & Industry Linkages
Visits to commercial apiaries and honey cooperatives
Demonstrations at Kaveri University’s apiary and honey unit
Guest sessions with marketing cooperatives, NABARD officials, and startup founders
Capstone Project
Development and presentation of a bankable apiculture project
Optional: Design of a community-based beekeeping model for tribal/rural areas
Participants will receive:
