Introduction

Kaveri University is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible academic environment for all. Guided by the principles of equity and universal access, the university ensures that persons with disabilities (PwDs) are supported through infrastructural, academic, and technological interventions that promote independence, dignity, and full participation in university life.

All initiatives align with the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, UGC Guidelines, and national policies on inclusive education.

Physical Accessibility

  • Barrier-free campus design with ramps, wide corridors, and designated access routes for ease of movement
  • Elevators with Braille buttons and voice assistance in multi-storey academic and administrative blocks
  • Accessible washrooms in all major buildings, hostels, and public areas
  • Reserved parking spaces for differently-abled individuals near all major campus facilities
  • Clearly marked signage for direction and safety, including tactile indicators

Assistive and Supportive Technology

  • Provision of screen-reading software, voice-to-text tools, and magnifying devices in the library and computer labs
  • Accessible e-learning materials, including audio books, video lectures with captions, and large print resources
  • Installation of adaptive furniture in classrooms and labs
  • Availability of laptops/tablets with assistive features for eligible students under inclusive education schemes

Academic and Examination Support

  • Flexibility in academic delivery and assessment, including provision for extra time during examinations, scribe/reader support, and separate exam seating if needed
  • Orientation and sensitization of faculty for inclusive teaching practices
  • Individualized learning plans (ILPs) and academic mentoring where appropriate

Hostel and Residential Facilities

  • Reserved rooms on ground floors of hostels with accessible washrooms
  • Ramps and accessible dining areas in hostel premises
  • Support services by wardens and trained staff for medical and daily assistance

Support Services

  • Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) for addressing academic and administrative needs of PwD students
  • Student welfare officer assigned to coordinate services, documentation, and liaison with government agencies for scholarships
  • Regular sensitization programs and awareness drives for creating an inclusive campus culture

  • UGC/MHRD fellowships for higher education
