Programme Overview

The university offers a specialized postgraduate programme (M.Sc. & Ph.D.) in Agricultural Extension designed to develop skilled professionals capable of bridging scientific agricultural innovations with farmers, communities, institutions and agricultural development agencies. The programmes focus on strengthening competencies in communication, behavioural sciences, extension management, ICT-based extension, participatory approaches and rural development strategies.

With a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical exposure, the programme prepares students to address emerging challenges in agriculture, such as climate change adaptation, digital extension, entrepreneurship development, social behaviour change and technology dissemination. Students receive hands-on training through field visits, institutional attachments, internships, and participatory research.

A unique strength of the programme is its industry and institutional integration, including collaborations with State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVKs), NGOs, NABARD, MANAGE, NAARM, agricultural startups and Agri-tech companies. These collaborations expose students to real-time extension processes, ICT tools and community-level programmes. They also provide opportunities to work on live extension projects, gaining experience in field research, extension programme planning and research methodology.

The programme aims to produce graduates who are academically strong, socially sensitive and industry-ready, capable of contributing to national agricultural development missions and global rural development initiatives.

Curriculum Overview

The curriculum includes the following core domains of agricultural extension including Extension Research Methods, Communication & ICT, Extension Management, Human Resource Development, Diffusion and Adoption of Innovations, Gender & Development, Entrepreneurship & Agribusiness Management and Policy Extension.

Through both theoretical learning and rigorous practical training, the curriculum equips students with the scientific depth and applied skills necessary to tackle real-world agricultural and rural development challenges and contribute meaningfully to sustainable agricultural extension.

Duration:

M.Sc.: 2 years (4 semesters)

Ph.D.: 3 years (6 semesters)

Eligibility Criteria

M.Sc. Eligibility

M.Sc. Agricultural Extension Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in agriculture / Horticulture / Forestry / Agricultural Marketing / Home Science / Community Science and Allied agricultural sciences from ICAR-accredited colleges / SAUs and affiliated colleges of SAUs or government-recognized private / autonomous university, with a minimum CGPA of 6.00/10.00.

Ph.D. Eligibility

Ph.D. Agricultural Extension M.Sc. in Agricultural Extension / Agricultural Extension Education with minimum OGPA 6.50/10.00, from Institute / Colleges having ICAR accreditation and affiliated colleges with SAUs having ICAR accreditation or government-recognized private / autonomous university.

The basic degree of four (4) years duration from Institute / Colleges having ICAR accreditation and affiliated colleges with SAUs having ICAR accreditation or government-recognized private / autonomous university.
