Evaluation System of Students, Examination and Grades for UG Courses in Technology
1.1 (a) The evaluation of the student in a course shall be based on his/her performance in various kinds of examinations, records, class work and other types of exercises.
(b) The detailed course outlines in each course shall be prepared by the concerned teacher(s) in consultation with the University Head of the Department/Head of the Department, which will be made available to the students during the first week of the semester. A schedule of the mid-sernester examinations of the academic programme shall be prepared by the Dean and notified to the students at the beginning of each semester.
(c) Answer scripts of mid-semester examinations are evaluated by the teacher and shall be shown to the students. The students shall have the option to request the teacher for clarification of any doubts in scoring, provided that such clarification is requested when the answer scripts are made available to them. This shall not apply to final theory and practical examinations.
1.2 Mid-semester examinations:
There shall be one mid-semester examination to be conducted by the teacher offering the course after 50% of the working days are over in a semester. The duration for mid- semester examination shall be for two hours and the final theory examination shall be three hours. The marks allotted for mid-semester and semester final theory examinations shall be 50 and 100, respectively. Ordinarily, no condonation for absence of mid-semester examination shall be given. However, the mid-semester examination to be conducted to the students who could not appear these examinations in view of their participation in the inter-university and national sports, literary and cultural events etc., along with the students who are genuinely prevented from taking examination in the case of serious illness or accident or any other case. This repeat examination shall be held within two weeks from the date of examination missed and shall be a common examination for all such students. Unless a student appears for the mid-semester examination, he/she shall not be permitted to appear for the semester final theory and practical examinations in the course concerned. The special re-examination shall be conducted as per the time fixed by the Dean within two weeks from the last date of mid-semester examinations. The average marks of the two midterm examinations will be considered as the final internal marks, out of a total of 50 marks.
1.3 Semester final examinations:
(a) The semester final examinations in each course shall be held at the end of each semester. The semester final examination in the theory portion shall be of three hours duration and carry 50 marks. It is the responsibility of the University to conduct the semester final theory examination, practical examinations. The students shall be given two preparation holidays (inclusive of the public holiday) before the commencement of semester’s final theory examinations.
(b) Answer scripts of semester final theory examinations evaluated through spot valuation system. On the last day of semester final examinations, the Dean shall send all the sealed answer scripts to the selected centre where they are coded, before distribution for valuation. The duration of spot valuation is 7 (seven) working days. Evaluation instructions are issued by the University for each semester.
1.4 Computation and Award of Courses Grades:
Marks for the practical shall be based on continuous evaluation of practical classes and a final practical examination which shall include a viva-voce examination.

Semester Final Practical Examinations (Internal)
Shall be conducted by course instructor(s) and one teacher nominated by HOD.
Semester Final Theory Examinations (External)
The syllabus of the courses concerned shall be sent to at least two teachers of other state Universities for each course who shall prepare the question paper.
The DOE(Director of Education) /COE shall choose two question papers which shall be moderated by the teachers as identified by the DOE(Director of Education)/COE and finally one of the question papers shall be chosen by DOE(Director of Education)/COE for the conduct of semester final theory examination. Evaluation shall be done internally by the faculty other than the course instructor.
1.4. Evaluation of Audit courses
A student registered for audit course(s) may appear for examinations only if they meet the attendance requirement, certified by the Head of the Department. These courses will be listed under a separate “Audit Course(s)” section in the final grade/marks sheet, but no credits will be awarded for them.
1.5 II Year II Semester Real-Time (or) Field-based Research Project course or minor project:
The internal evaluation is for 50 marks and it shall take place during I Mid-Term examination and II Mid-Term examination. The average marks of two Mid-Term examinations is the final for 50 marks. Student shall have to earn 40%, i.e. 20 marks out of 50 marks from average of the two examinations. There shall be NO external evaluation. The student is deemed to have failed, if he/she does not satisfy the below conditions.
(1) does not submit a report on the Project, or
(ii) does not make a presentation of the same before the internal committee as per
(iii) schedule, or secures less than 40% marks in this course.
1.6. Industry/Research Lab Internship
In VI Semester there shall be an Industry training (or) Internship (or) Industry oriented Mini-project (or) Skill Development Courses (or) Paper presentation in reputed journal (or) Industry Oriented Mini Project in collaboration with an industry of their specialization.
Students shall register for this immediately after II-Year II Semester Examinations and pursue it during summer vacation/semester break & during III Year without effecting regular course work.
Internship at reputed organization (or) Skill development courses (or) Paper presentation in reputed journal (or) Industry Oriented Mini Project shall be submitted in a report form and presented before the committee in III-year II semester before end semester examination.
It shall be evaluated for 100 external marks. Minimum marks to pass the examination is 50. The committee consists of an External Examiner, Head of the Department, Supervisor of the Industry Oriented Mini Project (or) Internship etc, Internal Supervisor and a Senior Faculty Member of the Department.
There shall be NO internal marks for Industry Training (or) Internship (or) Mini-Project (or) Skill Development Courses (or) Paper Presentation in reputed journal (or) Industry Oriented Mini Project.
If a student fails to appear for the external examination or does not pass the exam, they must reappear for the same examination in the following academic year by paying the applicable examination fee.
1.7 Capstone Project & Research
Students can perform Project work or Research individually or in a group (not exceeding four (4) members). Projects and Research are assessed under continuous evaluation for 100 marks, and the student must obtain a minimum of 50% to complete the course successfully. Evaluation includes weightage for periodic reviews, reports and final viva voce. The Capstone Project Stage-I begins in the 7th semester and is completed in the 8th semester. The evaluation of the project will be conducted by an external examiner appointed by the university. To pass the project examination, a student must secure at least 50% of the total marks allotted for the project. If a student fails to appear for the external examination or does not pass, they must reappear for the same examination in the following academic year by paying the applicable examination fee.
1.8 Grading System
Grades will be awarded to indicate the performance of students in each Theory Subject, Laboratory/ Practical’s/ Industry-Oriented Mini Project/Internship/SDC and Project Stage. Based on the percentage of marks obtained (Continuous Internal Evaluation plus Semester End Examination, both taken together) as specified in item 7 above, a corresponding letter grade shall be given. A letter grade does not indicate any specific percentage of marks secured by the student, but it indicates only the range of percentage of marks.
1.8.1. Grade points and symbols in absolute grading
As a measure of the performance of a student, a 10-point absolute grading system using the following letter grades (as per UGC/AICTE guidelines) and corresponding percentage of Marics shall be followed

1.9 Mass Absence of Students from a Class or Examination: Absence of students ‘en-masse’ from a class or examination shall not be condoned. The Dean, in addition, may order suspension of the course, if deemed necessary.
1.10 Unfair Means During Tests and Examinations:
The Dean of the college shall be responsible for dealing with all cases of use of unfair means in various examinations. The phrase. “Use of Unfair Means’ includes possession of any information or material by the student, talking to other students, copying from other students or from printed or written material may include ‘use of mobiles or any other electronic gadgets, impersonation etc. The invigilator concerned, on finding the use of unfair means by any student may take the answer scripts of the student and the material evidence, if any, and the explanation from the student. The student may also be sent out of the examination hall Immediately. The invigilator concerned shall report each case of unfair means directly to the Dean immediately with full details of the incident, answer scripts, the available evidence and explanation of the concerned students, if any. The Dean, on receipt of the report, may give an opportunity to the concerned student to represent his/her case considering all the available evidence, and the Dean shall take appropriate action immediately. The penalty shall be as indicated below:
1.11 Scrutiny of Grades:
The student may apply to the Registrar within one week after the announcement of the grades for scrutiny of the totalling of marks of the semester final examination or calculation of grade points obtained by him advancing sufficient reasons for such a request. The fee for such scrutiny shall be as prescribed from time to time.
