Dr. Varsha Nakala is a dedicated agronomist and academic with four years of professional experience in teaching, research and student mentoring. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agronomy, School of Agriculture, Kaveri University, she is committed to advancing sustainable agricultural production through innovative approaches in weed management, resource conservation, and climate-resilient agriculture.
Dr. Varsha holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy from Junagadh Agricultural University, Gujarat, where her doctoral research focused on weed management options in groundnut + pigeonpea relay intercropping systems. She completed her M.Sc. (Agriculture) in Agronomy from Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, Hyderabad, with research on the bioefficacy of diuron with sequential application of herbicides for weed control in cotton. Her academic journey has been marked by strong performance, including an ICAR Senior Research Fellowship, qualification of the ICAR-National Eligibility Test, and high ranks in competitive entrance examinations.
Her research interests lie primarily in weed management and sustainable crop production, with broader engagement in conservation agriculture, climate-smart agriculture, resource-use efficiency, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and emerging agricultural technologies. Her research has addressed weed dynamics, herbicide efficacy, nutrient uptake, energy balance, economics of weed management, and productivity of intercropping systems. Dr. Varsha has established a growing record of scholarly contributions, with 10 research articles, 12 popular articles, 12 book chapters, and 10 conference abstracts/presentations documented in her faculty profile. A strong advocate of technology-enabled agriculture, Dr. Varsha has expanded her professional capabilities into drone-based agricultural applications, having successfully obtained a Remote Pilot Certificate. Dr. Varsha’s academic accomplishments have been recognized through distinctions including the Outstanding/Best Thesis Award for her M.Sc. research and the Best Research Scholar Award received in 2023
