The course covers the entire seed value chain, from traditional and modern seed production techniques to certification processes. Participants will explore seed quality and its direct link to crop productivity, with emphasis on crops like rice, maize, cotton, and vegetables. Training includes sustainable methods for producing foundation and certified seeds, and hands-on experience in Seed Identification, Purity Testing, Moisture Estimation, Germination analysis, Viability Testing, and Seed Health Testing.
Participants also gain experience in Seed Processing techniques, including Cleaning, Grading, Weighing, and Packaging, alongside an understanding of Seed Treatment procedures to enhance seed health. Proper seed storage methods and the importance of grading are covered in detail to ensure that seeds meet required standards for commercial use. Furthermore, the course includes an in-depth study of the certification process, the regulatory frameworks that govern seed quality, and the standards required to ensure that seeds are suitable for agricultural use.
Theoretical sessions, led by industry experts, cover topics like Threshing methods, Seed Treatment Procedures, and the best practices in Seed Processing. To supplement theoretical knowledge, the program includes site visits to Seed Production Plots, Processing units, and Storage Facilities. These visits offer practical exposure to Seed Production and Processing practices, providing first hand insights into the operations of industry leaders such as Kaveri Seeds and other seed processing units.
