Agricultural Extension Researcher & Educator
Dr. B. Preethi is an Agricultural Extension professional, researcher, and educator with a strong interest in farmer-centric and rural development initiatives. Her professional work focuses on strengthening agricultural extension systems and improving the effectiveness of interventions for farming communities. Her research has primarily addressed crop insurance, farmer welfare, rural livelihoods, Self-Help Groups, and innovative extension approaches. Her doctoral research examined the impact of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana among beneficiary farmers in Western Maharashtra. She has undertaken research on grape and pomegranate farmers, particularly in relation to weather-based crop insurance. She has contributed to the development of a scale for assessing farmers’ perceived impact of the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme. Her earlier research explored the enterprise, income, efficiency, and entrepreneurial behaviour of Self-Help Groups.
She has published research papers in journals covering agricultural extension, rural development, social sciences. Her publications include studies on crop insurance, farmers’ characteristics, Self-Help Groups, extension activities, and entrepreneurial behaviour. She has also contributed popular articles on emerging themes relevant to agriculture and extension.
Her academic work has been presented at national conferences, symposiums, and professional forums. She has actively participated in workshops, training programmes, webinars, and professional development activities. Her professional exposure includes teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in agricultural education. She has a particular interest in innovative extension approaches, behavioural skills, strategic extension management, and farmer-oriented development. She has contributed to scholarly books on developmental policies, extension strategies, programme development, evaluation, and impact assessment.
She qualified and appeared for the interview for the post of Agricultural Research Scientist in Agricultural Extension, conducted by ASRB on 02 December 2024. She qualified the ICAR-National Eligibility Test (NET) in Agricultural Extension conducted by ASRB in 2021.She was awarded the ICAR-National Talent Scholarship (NTS) in Agricultural Extension for pursuing her M.Sc. during 2017–2019.
Her academic accomplishments include receiving the MPKV Gold Medal in Social Sciences for outstanding academic performance. She has also been a recipient of the Prime Minister Scholarship. Her ability to communicate in multiple Indian languages supports effective interaction with students, farming communities, and diverse stakeholders. With a combination of research, teaching, publication, and extension experience, Dr. Preethi is committed to advancing farmer-centric agricultural development and strengthening the role of agricultural extension in rural transformation.
