Dr. D. Sheshanka

Dr. Sheshanka Dugyala is a dedicated Plant Pathologist and Assistant Professor at Kaveri University, serving since 2023. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), Telangana, India, in 2011, and later pursued her master’s and Ph.D. in Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University (NDSU), Fargo, USA. Her doctoral research focused on the histological and molecular characterization of the wheat leaf rust pathogen Puccinia triticina, emphasizing three key pathosystems: barley-stem rust, wheat-leaf rust, and oats-crown rust.

Upon completing her Ph.D. in 2017, Dr. Dugyala expanded her expertise through postdoctoral research at the University of Minnesota (UMN), St.Paul, Minnesota, USA, delving deeper into host-pathogen interactions and rust diseases. Her work has significantly contributed to the understanding of plant pathogen dynamics, as evidenced by her publications in esteemed scientific journals. She has authored several high-impact research papers and book chapters that highlight innovative approaches to disease diagnostics and sustainable pathogen management. She has presented her findings at international conferences and symposia including APS Annual Meetings, BGRI Workshops and MPMI Congress, and earned recognition for her compelling and insightful presentations, receiving awards for Best Poster and Best Oral Presenter.

At Kaveri University, Dr. Dugyala is building an interdisciplinary research program addressing critical questions in host-pathogen interactions and sustainable plant disease management. Her research focuses on devising practical and innovative strategies to mitigate plant diseases, with a special emphasis on rust diseases that affect staple crops. She is equally passionate about teaching and is responsible for delivering the core course on Introductory Plant Pathology for undergraduate students.

Dr. Dugyala is committed to advancing the field of plant pathology through innovative research, meaningful collaborations, and mentorship. Her work aims to inspire the next generation of agricultural scientists while contributing to global food security.

Kaveri University was established as per the Telangana Private Universities (Establishment & Regulation) Act, 2018 under section 3.
