Dr. N.Lavanya

A Rising Voice in Climate-Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture

Dr. N. Lavanya is an agronomist with experience in teaching, research, and extension. She is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agronomy, School of Agriculture, Kaveri University. Her responsibilities include teaching, student mentoring, and academic activities.

With a strong academic foundation in Agronomy, Dr. Lavanya holds a Ph.D. in Agriculture from Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), Hyderabad, where she received the Best Ph.D. Thesis Award under the Professor E.A. Siddiq Endowment. Her doctoral research focused on the optimization of irrigation and fertigation scheduling in high-density cotton–sweet corn production systems and validation of the FAO AquaCrop model, reflecting her expertise in water management, fertigation and crop modelling.

Her professional journey also includes research experience with the ICAR–Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA), Hyderabad, where she worked on the National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) programme. Her work involved analysing climate risks, cropping systems, and resource availability for the preparation of block- and district-level agricultural contingency plans across India. She has also served as a Subject Matter Specialist at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, PJTSAU, Palem, under the District Agromet Unit (DAMU-GKMS) of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), where she contributed to weather-based agrometeorological advisories, farmer and extension training, forecast verification, diagnostic field visits and feedback collection.

Dr. Lavanya’s research interests centre on climate-resilient agriculture, irrigation and nutrient management, sustainable crop production, organic and conservation agriculture and the application of data-driven approaches in agriculture. She has published research articles in reputed national and international journals and contributed several book chapters in emerging areas of sustainable and climate-smart agriculture. She has also presented research through abstracts and conference proceedings and regularly contributes popular articles for the dissemination of agricultural knowledge among the farming community.

Dr. Lavanya has also undergone professional training in R programming, Python, GIS and QGIS, remote sensing, statistical techniques, carbon sequestration, and conservation agriculture. Her ability to integrate agronomic science with climate information, digital tools, and resource-efficient technologies reflects her commitment to developing practical and sustainable solutions for modern agriculture.

Through her contributions to teaching, research, extension, and climate-resilient agricultural development, Dr. N. Lavanya continues to build a strong academic and professional profile, with a vision of advancing sustainable, resource-efficient, and climate-smart agricultural systems for the future.
