Dr. Pasala Geervani

Dr. Pasala Geervani is a distinguished academician, visionary administrator, renowned nutrition scientist, and thought leader whose illustrious career spans several decades of exceptional contributions to higher education, scientific research, public health, and institutional leadership.

She served with great distinction as Professor of Nutrition for over twenty years and as Dean for five years at Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University (formerly Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University), Hyderabad. Her exemplary administrative leadership culminated in her appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, where she played a pivotal role in advancing women’s education and institutional excellence.

She currently serves as the Pro-Chancellor of Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth and has also contributed extensively to quality assurance in higher education as a member and chairperson of numerous National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) peer teams across more than twenty-five universities in India.

An internationally respected nutrition scientist, Dr. Geervani has made pioneering contributions in the fields of human nutrition, food security, child welfare, and sustainable development. She successfully led and completed more than twenty major research projects funded by prestigious national and international organizations, including FAO, UNICEF, the European Union, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Department of Science and Technology, the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and other leading agencies.

Her research has significantly advanced scientific understanding of legumes and food-based nutrition, particularly in the areas of protein digestibility, biological value, nutrient bioavailability, and anti-nutritional factors. As an FAO Consultant (1991–1994), she coordinated a landmark multi-sectoral programme in Nepal aimed at combating Vitamin A deficiency and malnutrition.

In recognition of her outstanding global contributions to nutrition and child welfare, she received the prestigious international “Liguria Award” in 1991. She is also a Fulbright Scholar and a Fellow of the United Nations University.

Beyond her scientific achievements, Dr. Geervani has uniquely integrated scholarship, cultural heritage, and spirituality. Following her retirement, she translated the Valmiki Ramayana into English with five detailed commentaries under a project supported by National Sanskrit University and the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

She continues to contribute actively through leadership roles within the Chinmaya educational movement. As a key member of the Chinmaya Education Cell, she has strengthened science education through teacher training and capacity-building programmes. She also serves as an Advisor to the Chinmaya International Foundation, promoting Indian knowledge systems and value-based education.

Dr. Geervani stands as an inspiring embodiment of holistic wisdom—harmonizing scientific rigor, educational leadership, cultural preservation, and spiritual insight.
